Wonderstruck offers counselling with professional registered services over the phone, online, and in-person in Kitchener-Waterloo. We offer an easy-to-use, secure online platform for all your appointment and booking needs, and are proud to provide mental health services for individuals who are 5 years of age or older.

Sometimes it’s the small steps that are both the hardest and most meaningful, like reaching out for support. We often view achieving our goals as climbing a mountain, and we focus only on reaching the top. This can be overwhelming, as the mountain is huge and the peak is very distant, causing us to forget the many small steps that cumulatively get us to the top.

It is not always easy to make that first call or send that first email. It is not always easy to say “I need help,” or to recognize that you deserve support. If you are looking for more information, want to connect more, or need guidance on the next steps, you can reach out to us. Our goal at Wonderstruck is to make sure that you find the support that is the right fit for you. If you decide to move forward with our mental health services, we will help you pick the counselling and psychotherapy treatment that meets your unique needs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Speech-Language Pathology focuses on communication development and challenges. An SLP supports children who may be experiencing delays or difficulties with speech sounds, language comprehension, expressive language, social communication, stuttering, or feeding.

At Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre, SLP services help children strengthen their ability to understand others and express themselves confidently. Communication plays a central role in learning, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. When children feel understood and able to communicate their needs, many other areas of development improve as well.

  • Supporting the whole child means recognizing that emotional wellbeing, learning, behaviour, imagination, physical health, and family dynamics are deeply connected. A child who is struggling at school may also be navigating anxiety. A child who seems withdrawn may be carrying social stress. A child who is acting out may need emotional tools rather than discipline alone.

At Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre, we look at the full picture. This can include therapy, academic support, play, parent collaboration, and wellness services when appropriate. We work with families to understand what is happening beneath the surface and create a plan that feels practical, sustainable, and empowering.

  • We support children and teens navigating emotional, behavioural, social, or academic challenges. We also work closely with parents and caregivers who are looking for guidance, tools, and support in building stronger family systems.

In addition, we offer wellness services for individuals seeking support in areas such as nutrition, body-based care, and overall wellbeing. Our centre is designed to serve families at many stages, whether you are navigating a specific concern or looking for proactive support.

  • Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre offers a range of services that are designed to work together:

    • Individual counselling for children, teens, and adults

    • Family counselling and parent support

    • Play-based therapeutic support

    • Academic support and tutoring from Kindergarten to Grade 12

    • Psychoeducational assessments coming soon

    • Speech-language pathology services coming soon

    • Nutrition services coming soon

    • Naturopathy coming soon

    • Registered Massage Therapy and wellness services

Our integrated model allows families to access coordinated care when needed rather than managing multiple separate providers.

  • What makes Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre unique is our intentional integration of care. We are not just a therapy clinic or a tutoring centre. We are a collaborative child and family hub.

When professionals work together with shared values and open communication, families receive more cohesive and effective support. Our team is united by a commitment to meeting kids and families where they are at, reducing wait times where possible, and building practical strategies that translate into everyday life.

We are mission-driven. Our goal is to help children feel understood, parents feel confident, and families build stronger foundations for the future.

  • You do not need to wait for a crisis to reach out. If your child is experiencing anxiety, mood changes, behavioural challenges, academic stress, friendship difficulties, or if something simply feels different, it may be helpful to connect.

Some families reach out because of a specific event. Others are looking for tools, reassurance, or preventative support. Both are valid reasons to contact us.

  • Our approach is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. We draw from established therapeutic models while tailoring our work to each child and family.

We prioritize building trust and safety first. From there, we focus on developing emotional insight, coping strategies, communication tools, and resilience. For younger children, this may include play-based work. For teens, it may involve identity exploration and skill building. For families, it often includes strengthening connection and practical parenting strategies.

We believe change happens when children feel safe, parents feel supported, and everyone feels heard.

  • The first step is typically an initial consultation. This gives us an opportunity to understand your concerns, learn about your child’s strengths, and clarify goals. We will talk through possible next steps and answer any questions you may have.

Our goal is to create clarity and direction without overwhelming you.

  • Every family is different. Some families seek short-term, goal-focused support. Others benefit from ongoing care over a longer period of time.

We regularly review goals together and adjust the plan as needed. Our focus is on building tools and confidence that families can carry forward independently.

  • Yes, it is completely normal.

Taking the first step can feel vulnerable. Asking for help or recognizing that you deserve support is not always easy. Many families tell us they felt unsure before contacting us and relieved once they did.

If you would like more information, want to connect, or need help figuring out the next step, we are here for you. There is no obligation in reaching out.

  • Direct billing may be available for certain services and providers. Please inquire when booking so we can let you know what options are available.

If direct billing is not available, you will receive a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

  • Many of our services are covered under extended health benefits plans, depending on your provider and your specific coverage. Coverage often includes services provided by:

    • Registered Psychotherapists

    • Registered Social Workers

    • Registered Massage Therapists

    • Registered Dietitians

    • Naturopaths

We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, including annual limits and reimbursement rates.

  • Fees vary depending on the type of service and the practitioner you are working with. Individual therapy, family sessions, assessments, and wellness services may each have different rates based on clinician training and session length.

We are committed to transparency. Current fee information is available upon request, and we are happy to discuss what options make the most sense for your family during your initial consultation.

  • Psychotherapy is a structured, supportive space where children, teens, or adults can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences with a trained mental health professional.

For children, this may include play-based or creative approaches that allow them to process feelings in developmentally appropriate ways. For teens and adults, psychotherapy often focuses on building coping tools, increasing emotional insight, improving relationships, and navigating life transitions or stress.

At Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre, psychotherapy is collaborative and compassionate. We meet kids and families where they are at and work together to build practical tools that support emotional resilience and long-term wellbeing.

  • Dietetics focuses on nutrition and how food supports physical health, brain function, emotional regulation, and overall development. A Registered Dietitian works with individuals and families to create sustainable, realistic nutrition plans tailored to their unique needs.

For children, nutrition can play an important role in energy levels, focus, mood, and growth. For families, dietetic support can help address picky eating, feeding challenges, digestive concerns, or special dietary needs.

At Wonderstruck Child and Family Centre, dietetics is part of our whole-child approach. We recognize that nourishment affects more than the body. It supports learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing as well.
